This sums it up.

My short version is:

Floating is a full body relaxation method that promotes introspection.

Its a tank/room filled with warm epsom salt water so dense that you cannot sink.  The water and the air around you are the same temperature as your body, making it seem like you are floating naked in space.   Its pitch black and soundproof to block out inputs to your senses.  This lack of stimuli allows your mental focus to shift inward.

But here’s what I really think.

Imagine stepping into a room, shutting the door to become completely cut off from any kind of sensory information.

Imagine that you are literally floating in a black void and the only thing you have to interact with is your own thoughts, feelings and mental awareness.  And while your mind and thoughts wander, your body becomes completely relaxed, your muscles soften and tension you’ve not even been aware of are released.

In this space you can Find Your Self.

Rather than focusing on the external world, like in everyday life, you instead focus almost 100% on what you experience in the inner world of the mind and spirit.  You may create visuals for yourself, solve problems, analyse your emotions, etc.  Or you may fall asleep.

Here is a short list of proven and objective benefits of floating:

  • Stress reduction
  • Anxiety relief
  • Sports recovery
  • Pain relief
  • To promote relaxation
  • Reduce headaches
  • Increased circulation
  • For more restful sleep
  • To learn to meditate
  • For moms craving a little quiet time
